President Kiir is set to conduct a one - day SPLM rally in Wau on 4th July.
The president Of The Republic Of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit will travel to Wau to celebrate his endorsement as the SPLM party candidate to contest in the general elections scheduled to take place in December 2024.
it is been reported that the SPLM Party delegates and Governors from Bahr El Ghazal region are in Wau town to make preparations ahead of the arrival of President Kiir.
South Sudan was supposed to conduct its first ever general elections in 2015 but it was postponed due to the bloodless conflicts that erupted in 2013.
In 2018, the warring Parties signed a peace deal with the government which brought an end to the conflicts and a three- year transitional system of government was established which would be followed by general elections in 2023. however, last year in 2022, the government and opposition parties agreed to extend the current transitional government until late 2024 to pave way for the security arrangement which is very critical for the elections.
Opposition parties in South Sudan have called for free and fair elections with equal opportunities for all contestants in 2024.
