The UN Security Council agreed to extend arm embargo on South Sudan until May 31st 2024
The UN Security Council has extended the arm embargo on South Sudan until the 31st May 2024. The newly agreed resolution by the council will see member states of the body prevent the direct or indirect supply , sale or transfer of military equipments to South Sudan. The council has strongly depended its decision and condemned the unity government of targeting civilians, journalists , human rights defenders and called on the unity government to step up and protect the civilians from war crimes and genocides. The sanctions also include assets freeze from designated individuals and allow member states to ban the sanctioned individuals to travel to or transit through their territories . Ten countries have voted in favor of the resolution and they includes ; the UK , Ecuador, Brazil, Japan , France , Malta , Switzerland, UAE , the USA and Albania.
