Johnson Olony greeted by supporters in Juba

The leader of Agwelek faction and SPLM-IO Kit-Gwang commander, General Johnson Olony, has returned to Juba for peace talks with President Salva Kiir. He arrived in the capital on Sunday morning with 200 soldiers and senior officers from his group.

General Olony, who is also the leader of the Shilluk militia, said he came back to Juba to implement the Khartoum peace agreement that he signed with President Kiir in January 2022. The agreement aims to end the factional conflict in Upper Nile and Jonglei states and integrate his forces into the South Sudan People Defense Forces (SSPDF). South Sudan News has not yet confirmed the role of Mr Olony in the ongoing peace process.
