South Sudanese community in Egypt expressed anger after being blocked to enter the basketball Arena in Alexandria to Support their national team.
The captain of the Bright Star Basketball team Luol Deng has condemned Egyptian Basketball federation of showing disrespect towards South Sudanese who came from far countries and other cities in Egypt to attend the match. The supporters were blocked entrance to the Arena and were left stranded outside the Arena hosting the match between Senegal and South Sudan.
Fans from both countries stood outside the arena and watched the game on their mobile phones. Among them was a grandmother who flew in from USA to come and support her grandson which she had not seen for years. In the Post match interview, Luol Deng called on the Egyptian basketball association to show some respect to foreign fans as they are hear to cheer on their team and lift the team' spirit.
South Sudanese community in Egypt have long been facing racial discrimination from the Egyptians in several ways, verbal abuse, physical discriminatory attack and negligence from public services.
President Kiir is expected to attend the international tournament in person later this year.
